God Bless and keep this wonderful man. We were parishoners at St. Charles for 20 years and know his presence in the church community will be sorely missed.

Monsignor Hession officiated at my parents' wedding at St. Pat's and baptised me there over fifty years ago. It's hard to imagine anyone who was more a part of the history of my family. He will be missed by many who loved him. His influence on lives continues on.

Memories of Fr Ed always bring a smile to our faces. When we were taking instructions to become Catholic, we were introduced to him and he stuck out his hand and said to my husband, "When I meet another Ed I always say 'Two Eds are better than one'. I'm sure the parish will never be the same without him. We have never found another parish with the same feel of community that he fostered at St. Charles.

Father Hession was truly a gift from God! He was Christ-like in everything he did and said. Father was never too busy to walk through the school and share a story or a magic trick with the children and the teachers. He was Jesus to all he met. There is celebration in heaven at his homecoming. He will be missed and always remembered.

I have fond memories of growing up at St.Charles and hearing Father Hession at school masses and services on Sunday.

The best memory of Father Hession was watching him bend my moms silver at my First Communion celebration.

My favorite time spent with him came in high school. When he came and spoke to my class at Snider about Medjugore and the presence of Mary.

May you rest in peace Father Hession.

I'll never forget Father Hession's greetings after mass. "Beautiful day today, eh Fr. Hession?".

He'd reply "A beautiful day for the race!"

"What race?" We'd ask.

"The HUMAN race!".

Amen. God bless you, Fr. Hession.

I have been privileged to know Msgr. Hession nearly all of my life, as a parishioner and student at St. Charles, and during the many years serving the parish in music ministry. I will never forget his wonderful homilies, the stories and tricks at staff luncheons (my favorites were "Jack and the Beanstalk," and the "Hummingbird"), and his delight when singing with the Children's Choir on Christmas Eve. He was able to sing "The Birthday of a King" one last time this past Christmas, and for that I will always be greatful. As you said many times to me, Msgr. Hession: 'you done good.' Rest in peace.

His memories of many evenings playing cards at our house with my parents, showing us his card tricks, and the pulling off of his thumb was a favorite. His presence at school was profound. It was always a joy to know when he was going to visit your classroom.

He will be dearly missed by our family and many many more.

We loved you Fr. Hession!

Sincerely,

Janet Sirois

May Msr. Hession rest in peace. I will always remember him singing at Christmas Eve masses and to this day, when I hear those hymns, I think of him. Thank you for your inspiration and kindness. You were a blessing to us all. You were always there to support us and have left a lasting impression. Thank you.

Class of 1979 will miss you. Until we meet again...

From 1974 to 1984, while my family lived in Ft. Wayne,Fr. Hession was a constant and powerful presence for my parents, my siblings and I. We all cherished his solos during Mass, the fact that he performed most of the ceremonies for our major childhood Sacraments, his visits for dinner, and his great humor. No matter how many times he asked, I could never spell Rensselaer for him and may have just spelled it wrong again. I'm sure he is laughing as he learns of this. God bless you, Fr. Hession! We will keep your positive spirit alive!

Father was a gentle soul. He understood so deeply and personally the gospels which he proclaimed to us. He was humble in all things. That humility was a teacher in itself. Thank you, Father Hession!

I cannot wait until the day he becomes Saint Edward. I have never met a more perfect person. I have already read it once in this book, but it bears repeating. When we received our report cards from Father he always said to me "Fools were made by folks like mesa, but only God could make Theresa."

He baptized me into this great community over 4 decades ago. Since that time I recieved my first penance and communion through him. His wit and wisdom will be sorely missed as we talk about him from time to time. His perseverance in serving the church well after retirement and within days of his eternal life in heaven is a blessing and inspiration to us.

Fr. Hession welcomed our family to St Charles in 1959. He was a part of many family celebrations and was tennis partner to my mother on the 4th of July. Hopefully they can get a few sets in, in their eternal home. May he rest in peace and know he was loved by many!

I have fond memories of typing the bulletin at the rectory (on Trier Road). Msgr. Hession liked baking jelly rolls for housekeeper Catherine Mohl and me to enjoy. He is special!

THERE ARE NO WORDS TO CONVEY THE FAMILY'S LOVE FOR THIS MAN. IF YOU LOOKED UP "PERFECT UNCLE" AND "PERFECT PRIEST" HIS PICTURE AND NAME WOULD BE THERE. I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH OUR SONG FESTS TOGETHER WITH MY MOM PLAYING THE PIANO AND US SINGING TOGETHER WHEN WE WOULD VISIT HIM IN FORT WAYNE AND WHEN HE CAME TO VISIT IN LAFAYETTE. GOD IS SMILING AT YOUR JOKES AND SONGS RIGHT NOW, I AM SURE, MSGR ED! WE LOVE YOU AND WILL MISS YOU. "YOU HAVE TOUCHED US, WE HAVE KNOWN REAL LOVE."

February 16, 2006

I have too many memories of Monsignor Hession to fit into this tiny space. But the memories I cherish most are of the times I would visit him at the rectory after school. He would show me a new magic trick, and even better, show me how it was done. Soon we were doing magic tricks together at talent shows.

I'm sure it was Monsignor Hession who gave me my start in show business.

Anyone who knew Msgr. Hession knew a Saint.

His homilies were inspiring to everyone.

We have fond memories of him entertaining adults and children alike at our 4th of July parties.

When you hear female laughter seemingly out of nowhere, it is Mary laughing at Msgr. Hession's jokes.

We truly love him,

Robert Hession

Father Ed Hession will always have a place in my heart. He loved God and his family. I will never forget his humor, love and joy. We my have lost a great man, but Heaven received a greater spirit. Pride and Joy.

Father Hession;

You were one of the very best Priests I ever knew and I have known many.

Even tho I attended Cathedral,I caddied for you many times while you were at St Pats.

Then I was there the day you were appointed to St Charles. The way you handeled the Gene Murray deal is something I have told hundreds.

When I returned to Fort Wayne to for our 50th CCHS re-union you remembered me after not seeing me for about 25 Years.

I hope to see you up-there one of these days.

While we have only been members at St. Charles for a couple years, we would always love when Monsignor Hession would have Mass. Even in his older years, he was top notch and made us both smile and proud of our faith. He will be greatly missed but always remembered.

February 15, 2006

I have fond memories of Father Hession at St. Pats - whenever I went to confession he knew who I was - he would always say Rosann or Joann (my twin)!! He loved visiting my family as we lived across the street on DeWald st.

I'm sure all the grads of St. Pat's knew his thumb trick!!

He was loved by all the parents and students of St. Patricks.

Mgsr. Hession is the perfect example of a parish priest. He loved God, Jesus, Mary, the Church, his parish and parishoners. These were his whole life. His obvious love and dedication to his vocation will forever be remembered by those of us fortunate enough to know him. Though he will be terribly missed, we will always remember his jokes and majic tricks, and how he was loved by all who knew him. His life on earth was like a pebble thrown into a pond that has sent out ripples through thousands of lives. His life, laughter, and love will live on through all of us and continue to spread ripples through our lives. God Bless you Mgsr. Hession. May you rest in the loving arms of Jesus and Mary.

Msgr. Hession was a wonderful pastor and living witness to God's love. His voice remained strong to the end, and his message was bold as he sang and preached the Word of God. We will miss him. It was a priviledge to know him.

While Monsignor Hession's death brings us great sadness, take solace that we had the opportunity to know and learn from such a great man. This was a rare opportunity, one I shall forever cherish.

Monsignor Hession filled our Parish with love. How more appropriate could his final day be, Valentines Day {A day all about love}

Rest in Peace.........

I will always remember Monsignor Hession walking around the cafeteria at St. Charles while I was in grade school with his popsicle sticks, making that diamond disappear. I still don't know how he did that! I will miss him greatly. I know he's watching over us all now though.

This Guest Book is a wonderful tribute to my uncle, Msgr. Ed Hession. I love him, still, dearly and I am so grateful that so many feel the say way. His dying on Valentine's Day was fitting for one who gave so much love.

When I was a little girl he would say... "Poems were made by fools like me -sa. But only God can make a Theresa.

Now you know how he won my heart over 60 years ago.

Praise God and the Blessed Mother.

Msgr. Hession was truly an example of priesthood lived in love and service. When I was principal at St. Charles School it was evident how much he cared about the people of the parish and the children. We will never forget his jokes, magic tricks, and most of all the puns that filled the days with Fr. Hession with laughter and joy. Most of all his faith and devotion were evident to all who knew him. He was a wonderful example of a priest who lived and shared the Catholic faith to the fullest! We know he will continue to smile upon us and pray for us, as we will remember him.

There are so many stories about Msgr. Ed Hession out there- all of them good ones too. If I had to pick one anecdote I'd have to pick on how he used to greet the Channel 33 T.V. Mass audience with, "Good Morning, Good Friends." Obviously, Our Lord has greeted Msgr. Ed with, "Good Morning, Good Friend."

May Msgr. Ed Rest In Peace.

Msgr Hession will be missed. His devotion to our lady was inspiring. Also, his love for Christ was very evident. I remember him signing at Midnight mass once and his emotion brought tears to my eyes.

February 15, 2006

Uncle Fr. Ed (as we all called him) was without a doubt our favorite uncle. We have so many happy memories. There was never a wedding, family reunion, or even funeral in our family when the family (especially the children) were not all gathered around him to laugh at his corny jokes, be amazed at those magic tricks, or sing until we were hoarse. He was the highlight of every family gathering and the well from which we drew spiritual strength in times of tragedy. Whenever I think of Uncle Fr. Ed, I think of that famous saying,: "Some people come into our lives and quickly go; but some leave footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same." We are so blessed for the footprints he left on our hearts.

I'm sure he is showing God how to do those magic tricks right now.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Monsignor Hession. At the same time, however, we take great comfort in the knowledge that he is now living in eternal life with our heavenly Father. Monsignor Hession was a kind-hearted and loving soul, whose style and personal attention to others was honestly appreciated and will be remembered forever. He has a lasting legacy in the Saint Charles Parish and the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese, and he has touched many, many lives, myself and my family included. A job well done, Monsignor Hession! You will be missed!

St. Charles' and Fort Wayne's SAINT. I'll never forget the time he spent with us as children growing up at St. Charles, with his many tricks and jokes, providing laughs and smiles for all. It was great to hear him sing on Christmas Eve this year, as well!

He will be so dearly missed. I grew up in St. Charles parrish, attended school for 8 yrs and I am currently a parishoner. I will never forget the days in grade school, as he walked through the "playground" and children flocked to him to see his magic tricks, listen to his jokes, and see his smiling face. He truly was a blessing to the Catholic community and all the hearts he touched.

Twenty-one years ago Monsignor (then Father) Hession baptized me into the Catholic Church. He has been someone I have looked up to ever since. He will be greatly missed by everyone in our parish, but we can be comforted by knowing that he is at peace with his beloved Holy Mother, Mary.

We are so sorry to hear of his death, but are so sure he is in a much happier place. We have so many fond memories, but the one memory etched in our minds forever is the look on his face the night of his 70th birthday when a group of us put the St. Charles statue up in the parking lot and it was from all of the parishoners given to him for his birthday. He loved and talked about St. Charles Borromeo so often. We will truly miss him and will keep him in our daily prayers and thoughts.
