EDWARD TIMM Obituary

EDWARD O. TIMM, 91, died peacefully at home on Friday, April 5, 2013. Born Feb. 18, 1922 in Michigan City, Ind., he was the son of Edward C. and Lena Wagner Timm. He graduated from St. Mary's High School where he played football and founded the Boomerang Club on the eve of World War II. The club was named in the hope that all its members would return safely home from the war. Ed served three years in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Wendling, England, where he was Tech. Sgt. in charge of bombsite maintenance with Group 392. The first of his family to attend college, he graduated from Purdue with a degree in mechanical engineering and went to work for Corcoran Engineering in Chicago and the Hayes Corporation in Michigan City. In 1958, he struck out on his own, moving his young family to the Boston suburbs to start the Timross Corporation representing manufacturers of industrial instruments and controls. His equipment was used in the space program, nuclear power plants, oil drilling platforms and industry throughout New England. Ed and Jean made their home in Framingham, Mass., where they made dear lifelong friends, and were avid golfers at the Framingham Country Club. The 1990s and retirement took them to Vero Beach, Florida, where they immersed themselves in the golf scene. Since 2005, they have made their home in Fort Wayne. One of the highlights of the past year of his life was accompanying Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., a trip he found profoundly moving. "His family will remember him as a man of honor and compassion, bold deeds, hard work and accomplishment, and unwavering devotion." He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eugenie Carlin Timm of Fort Wayne; he leaves his children, Mary Timm Gomes of Fort Wayne, Michael Edward Timm (Jeanne D'Amico) of Milford, Mass., Margaret Ellen Timm (John Zimmerman) of Fort Wayne and Robert Carlin Timm (Laurie Manos) of Odenton, Md.; also surviving are one sister, Therese (William) Wing; and sister-in-law, Alice Timm, all of Michigan City; seven grandchildren, Daniel A. Zimmerman (Sarah), Mary Timm-Zimmerman (Kyle Carey), Mattie Timm-Zimmerman, Michael E. Timm Jr, Allison Timm, Jane Gomes and Carlin Timm survive. "He leaves behind a large and loving extended family and enjoyed get-togethers with a host of loving nieces and nephews and their spouses and children, and he was able to hold his first great-grandchild, John Gammon Zimmerman, born in February." Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Jerome J. Timm, DDS; and sister, Mary Margaret (Peg) Rathnow; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen (Meers) Timm, Stanley Rathnow, Martha and Eldon Siebenaler and J.Donald and Mary (Carlin) Brogan. Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling one hour prior. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Soup Kitchen or Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. To view the online obituary, please go to www.mccombandsons.com

I will always treasure the memories of my Uncle Ed. Stong, principled, brilliant, intense, and fully human are my defining adjectives for a man of action and a passion. There are specific and defined points in this world where Uncle Ed left his mark and, in so doing, made the world a better place.
