Eileen Cole Obituary

Eileen (Carpenter) Konger Cole, 90, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, spread her wings and flew on a new path towards Heaven, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, family was everything to Eileen and her face literally lit up in their presence. She could plan a celebration like no other! Her creative, adventurous spirit will live on through her family. Mom was the Matriarch, the glue, that molded and held the Konger family together. She was always a strong, determined, "can do" kind of a woman, who loved to always be the gracious hostess; welcoming people and making them feel a part of her life. Her creative talents went above and beyond when planning family gatherings for all celebrations. She made every family event more imaginative each year. Her time spent on Coldwater Lake, also known as "Grammie's Snack Shack," will forever be remembered and hold a special place in our hearts. Her artistic and innovative flair carried into designing scrapbooks for her children, that will last as a lifetime testament to her love of family. Some lesson's from our Mom were: "Always takes pictures when family gets together." "Try not to say or do something you'll regret later, as they will never go away." "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain." "It's not about the years in your life, it's about the life in your years." "Never to old to learn something new." "Tomorrow is guaranteed to no one." "It's been a good run." "Getting old isn't for sissies." In her final moments, Mom continued to teach us life's lessons, and some of her last words were "Carry On." Now, we have to listen! Mom, our final count off.... One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six.... all our love! Eileen is survived by her six children; Kevin Konger, Tina (Gary) Lewis, Brian Konger, Tammy Konger-Schillace, Terri (Bill) McEvoy, and Molly (Mike) Miller; stepdaughter, Deb (Warren Beale) Cole; 12 grandchildren Thomas Konger, Todd Konger, Sara Konger, Justin (Jaime) Lewis, Nathaniel Schillace, Lisa (Andrew) Stolk, Chelsea (Ryan) Bailey, Anna (Matt) Oxendine, Corey Schillace (Angie Becker), Alex Lewis, Jake (Sandi) McEvoy, Cassidy (Isaac) Schwieterman; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Alice Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cole; her siblings, Glenn Carpenter and Carol Sue Rachal; daughter-in-law, Melody Konger; and stepson, Scott Cole. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in Eileen's name can be sent to a Hospice Center in your area or Ronald McDonald House.

Mom will always be with each of us because she was the glue that kept us all together. Her desire to have family near was a driving force in her life, thus for all of us. Gary and I made a promise to her that we would "get back home at least once a year" when we moved to Texas. We only broke that promise once while we lived overseas. She has always been the person to accept us and welcome others into the family if they wanted to be included. She taught us how to share creatively with others so each person knew they had special value. My kids knew that when they visited Grandma, they were treasured. She made all her grandkids and great grandkids feel that emotional attachment, each in their own particular way. Her presence will leave a vast emptiness, but her love will always be near.
