EUGENE "GENE" LAUGHLIN

EUGENE "GENE" LAUGHLIN, 83, of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at his home. Born in South Bend, Ind., Eugene graduated from South Bend Central and Ball State University. He was a tax specialist with Lincoln Life for 34 years, retiring in 1988 and also worked at LS Ayers for 38 years as a sales associate. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and very active in the choir program. His hobbies included oil painting, reading, working crossword puzzles and music. Surviving are his loving wife, Janet S. Laughlin of Fort Wayne: children, Susan L. (Gary) Bishop, Christine M. (Scott) Kumfer and Richard E. (Merrilee) Laughlin, all of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard L. Laughlin of South Bend, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene H. and Helen M. Laughlin; and sister, Kathleen M. Furukawa. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Wayne St., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Jeff Lehn officiating. Calling also from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Private burial at a later time in Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco, Ind.
