Jane: I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. We ran into each other earlier this year at Bobick's in Fort Wayne. We talked about Winchester and laughed about those good times. He spoke proudly of you and your family. My prayers are with you. He will be missed by many.

Dear Mrs Drill and family,

Hi, I just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear about Mr. Drill. He was my principal at Norwell High since I was a freshmen and up until i was a senior (thats when he went to be Assistant Superintendant of Wells County) and when I heard about his death I was really shocked, I never thought it would be his turn to go. The last time I saw Mr. Drill was at my Graduate Practice (CLASS OF 2004) and I looked at him and told him this "I will miss your smile when I gradute." Again I am really sorry to hear about his death.

Dear Jane and Family:

I was so saddened to hear of Gary's death. I know he had many friends and his loss will be felt by all of us.

There was a time when I was an eigth grader moving to Winchester from Ridgeville. I will never forget coming to the large Winchester gym and seeing Gary play basketball for the first time. I went straight home and tried to play in my back yard the way he had played that day. I will always remember how big and strong Gary was. He could touch the rim (and get above it) and that amazed me as a youngster. I can still see Steve Suddeth, Marv Holdren, Terry White, Pete Haviza and others playing with Gary. I remember all of the players on that team and Gary was a role model for all of us. He continued to be a role model for hundreds of children throughout his career.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss. His memory will always live with me.

Mrs. Drill, sons and families - Gary was the first principal to hire me when I began teaching at age 40. I taught during someone's leave and Gary changed a teaching assignment so that he could offer me a full time position the next fall. Although I didn't teach long at NHS due to a long commute, I very much enjoyed working with him and seeing him for several years after that at show choir competitions. He demonstrated sincere caring for his students and staff and I feel honored to have known him as a professional educator. My thoughts and prayers will be with your family.
