GILFORD JOHNSON Obituary

GILFORD L. "GIL" JOHNSON, 92, of Brookville, Ohio passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Brookhaven Retirement Community following an extended illness. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving 33 months in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired after 40 years with International Harvester UAW in Fort Wayne. He was a member of Sherman Street Church of God, and was a lifetime member of both the VFW and DAV. Gil is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Slyder) Johnson, sons, Randal (Shirley) Johnson of Wichita, Kan., Richard Johnson of Tell City, Ind.; sister, Marge Keintz; step-daughters, Ruth Bradley and Kathryn George; two devoted step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. During their retirement years, Gil and Dorothy enjoyed traveling by RV, cruising and their winters in Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and his first wife, Hillis. Local service is visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46809). We enjoyed getting to know Gil and family when they built their home across from us on Waycross Drive, back in the eighties or so. He was a kind and thoughtful friend. Our thoughts are with you.
