GLORIA WYGANT Obituary

GLORIA J. WYGANT, 96, of Huntington, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, 1:55 a.m., at The Heritage of Huntington. Mrs. Wygant was born March 8, 1913, in Allen County, daughter of the late Elmer and Clem Griffith Platt. Gloria married Laurell Edward Wygant on Aug. 29, 1931; he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1997. Mrs. Wygant was employed as a cafeteria cook at Lafayette Central School in Roanoke. She was a member of Monson Chapel United Methodist Church and a past member of Mt. Zion Ladies Aid. Survivors include a son, Burton (Elsie) Wygant of Roanoke; a daughter, Joy (Lester) Sheets of Roanoke; two sisters, Rebecca (Edward) Merckx of Fort Wayne and Patricia Switzer of Roanoke; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grand-children. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monson Chapel United Methodist Church or Hoverstock Cemetery in c/o McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
