GREGORY ELLSWORTH BAUER

GREGORY ELLSWORTH BAUER, 51, of Chicago, Ill., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, at home. Greg was born in South Bend, Ind. He was an accomplish ed musician from early childhood and pursued this passion throughout his life. Greg graduated with honors from Indiana University Kelley School of Business and loved being a Hoosier. He was a dedicated fan of all things IU sports, particularly basketball, and would enthusiastically support them through thick and thin. One of the things Greg valued the most was spending time with his parents. He would make regular visits to Fort Wayne and was most fond of everyday moments, like delivering firewood under the "Bauer and Sons Firewood" business with his dad and playing endless games of backgammon with his mom. Greg was a role model to his brother Eric. Greg had a chance to show him the ropes for a year at IU and kept his brother under his wing when he moved to Chicago where, together, they enjoyed everything the city had to offer and made lifelong friendships. This unique bond was a reflection of their parents and their love of family. Greg was deeply devoted to his nieces. He loved to play games, have movie nights, treat them to ice cream, and plan an "Uncle Greg Day". He took his role as Godfather seriously and would jump at any opportunity to spend time with them. The girls loved their "favorite" uncle dearly. Greg was a kind, selfless person. He was a loyal and loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. "He left us too soon and will be profoundly missed by all." He is survived by his father, Marlin "Butch"; mother, Julie; brother, Eric (Amy); nieces, Scarlett and Eloise; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and, cousins. A Celebration of Life is from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2021, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 10001 Coldwater Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46825), with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. Private family burial will take place in Decatur Cemetery. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent and in lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the Harlan Christian Youth Center, 17308 Second St., Harlan, IN 46743, and the Music Department of Covenant U.M.C.
