James Meyer Obituary

James "Jim" Meyer, 62, of Fort Wayne, died June 17, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Jim was born in Davenport, IA to (the late) Carl Meyer and (the late) Joan (Baker) Meyer. He moved to Fort Wayne in 1989 to work at north American Van Lines, in the tractor shop as a diesel mechanic. He was still working in the same shop location for Burford Diesel at the time he became ill. Jim was a diehard Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was also as an avid fan of many racing types, particularly dirt track racing, including modifieds, dirt late models, sprint cars and midgets. His favorite race every year was the Indianapolis 500. He was very funny, with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. Often mistaken for grumpy, Jim quietly observed the world around him. Jim was also preceded in death by his sisters Jeanne Meyer and Marcia (Meyer) Strieck and Brother-in-law James Strieck.

He is survived by his wife Melissa Boxell. Nieces Erin (Haley) Wikoff of Davenport, IA, Carrie (Billy) Coats of Arlington, TX, Great nephew Isaiah (Amanda) Coats, Great Nieces Elena Coats and Meyer Wikoff. Brother-in-Law Erik (Imade) Boxell and Nieces Makayla and Keira Boxell. Also, a family of close, life long friends. Dee, Jerry, Lisa, J. R. (Joelle) , and Jake (Elizabeth) Ruefer. The family wishes to thank the multitude of RN's, PCT's and Doctors of Parkview Regional Medical Center Hospital and Hospice. There will be no service.
