Joanne Mollica Obituary

JOANNE M. MOLLICA, 74, of Fort Wayne, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at her home surrounded by her family. She died from complications caused by Multiple Myeloma after a courageous battle of over two and a half years. Born June 24, 1932, in Kendallville, she was the daughter of the late Carl E. Thomas and Irma M. (Urey) Thomas. She was a graduate of International Business College and in addition to raising her two children, she held various secretarial positions within General Electric Co. and Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. and retired from Parkview Hospital in 1990 after 10 years of service. She was a member of The United Methodist Church of the Covenant and the Agape Sunday School class. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, knitting afghans and making quilts for her family and her church missions. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her faith, humor, strength and independence and the care she shared with others. She was greatly loved and we will surely miss her. Survivors are her husband of almost 52 years, Richard Mollica; son, Thomas R. Mollica of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter, Lisa K. Gibson of Fort Wayne; and three wonderful grandchildren, Kristin M. and Dustin J. Gibson and Sydney A. Mollica; brother, Paul E. Thomas of Waterloo; and several nieces and a nephew. She was also preceded in death by a brother, J. Dale Thomas. Service 2 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church of the Covenant, 10001 Coldwater Road, calling one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Harold Oechsle officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Chapel, 1320 E. Dupont Road. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Dear Uncle Dick, Tommy, Lisa & Kids ~ We wish we could have been with you to hug you, cry with you, laugh at all the funny memories and honor our Aunt Joanne. Our hearts and prayers are with you now and always. She was very special to all of us, and my favorite memory will always be of Grandma getting so excited because all of you were coming in from Indiana...and Aunt Joanne could keep Grandpap quiet! With all our love, Jack & Marilynn

Dear Uncle Dick, Lisa, Tom, Kristin, Dustin, and Sydney,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find consolation in all the love Aunt Joanne gave you and in knowing that she never had any doubts about how much she was loved. We'll always remember her smile, her 'quiet' jokes, and the Florida visits. We love you.

Dear Uncle Dick,Tommy, and Lisa,
I wish we could be there to give you hugs. I will always remember my train rides with Grandma to visit you in the summers. I enjoyed our special time together and the memories we made while visiting. We shared some wonderful times at Lake Michigan, too. I can still hear her laughing over the jokes and antics we pulled. The memories will keep her alive in your hearts forever.
Much love, Cynthia, Lindsay, & Jacob Hakanson

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
My beloved aunt Joanne and my most fovorite aunt will always remain in my heart with most fondest memories. I will miss Aunt Jo so much and my heart aches with intense pain for her husband and children and grandchildren and myself. I can only have peace in knowing that she is now free of ill health and is now with her master Jesus Christ and with her family who have preceded her in this passage to the next life. I sing in my heart the song (LIFT ME UP WHERE I BELONG)in memory to Joanne
Love Always, Niece/Cousin
