John Krieger Obituary

JOHN A. KRIEGER, 68, of Churubusco, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. A native of Whitley County, he was a lifelong resident of Churubusco. Born with Down Syndrome, he lived with his family all his life, but was fondly known as "Churubusco's Favorite Son and All Round Nice Guy." He assisted in many businesses in Churubusco throughout his life, including the former Raypole's Standard Service, Super Valu, Floyd's Auto Sales, Diffendarfer's Body Shop, Shroyer's Variety & Hardware, Jones Insurance, Pit Stop Pizza, Churubusco News, Papa's Place and Sheets & Childs Funeral Home. He was a member and active participant at Churubusco United Methodist Church. Most dear to his heart was his close association with the Churubusco Volunteer Fire Department, Whitley County EMS Medic 21, Churubusco Police Department, and the Whitley County Sheriff's Department. He was an avid fan of Purdue University Basketball and the Chicago Cubs. Surviving are his sister, Beverly Davis of Churubusco; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd "Pete" and Hazel (Hollenbeck) Krieger; brother, Calvin Krieger; and sisters, Leila Conner and Phyllis Ferguson. Service is 2 p.m. Sunday at Churubusco United Methodist Church, with calling one hour before the service. Calling also from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco. Interment in Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
