John Meyer Obituary

John M Meyer, 66, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Avilla, passed away on February 8, 2024, He was born on April 10, 1957, in Garrett, to Herman and Bernadette (Shoudel) Meyer. John had many interests and hobbies - his favorite being fishing at Eagle Lake in Ontario Canada. He also enjoyed music and was very talented playing the guitar. His motorcycle, brewing his own beer, and collecting model trains are other ways he spent his time. He retired in 2022 from Hendrickson in Kendallville. John is survived by brother, David "Sweeney" (Clora) Meyer; sisters, Mary Kay (Ed) Helmkamp of Wolcottville, and Ann (Tom) Smith of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Tim) Wells, Kim (Chase) Anderson, Brian Meyer, Alan (Amber) Smith, and Stephen (Amanda) Smith; and great nieces and nephews, Ryan Wells, Corinne Wells, Paige Anderson, Caden Anderson, Addison, Regan, Morgan, Evan, Ellie Maye, and Piper Meyer, and Abigail, Nolan, and Ava Grace Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Margaret Meyer. A celebration of life will be held at 6pm, Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla. Visitation will be held from 3-6pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions in John's memory may be directed to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or Masses.
