Kathryn Shultz Obituary

Kathryn "Kathy" (Smith) Shultz, 96, of Woodstock, GA, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the Reserve Town Lake Community of Woodstock, Ga.

Kathy, or Kate as she was affectionately known by her family, lived a life devoted to her family, faith, friends, and community.

Kathy was born on June 5, 1929, in Anderson, Ind., beloved daughter of the late George Smith and Vivian Smith (née Ulmer).

Kathy attended Indiana University and earned a baccalaureate degree from Ball State University. A polymath, Kathy was a teacher, successful businesswoman, pilot, global traveler, and patron of the arts. She brought joy and enthusiasm to all of her many endeavors. Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends. Kathy felt blessed to share their good company and seized every moment to be with them. Kathy also loved her home, Northeast Indiana, from the lakes to the farms, to Fort Wayne and the surrounding towns; to the symphony, bridge clubs, reading groups, Rummikub gatherings, innumerable social events, and Hoosier Hysteria. Whether at Angkor Wat or in Auburn, Ind., Kathy loved to meet people and to learn from them. She loved music, danced as if no one was watching, spread happiness, and lived by the credo "blossom where you are planted."

Kathy Shultz left her mark on this world in countless and altruistic ways. Her professional legacy, particularly during her years as a Broker for RE/MAX Results and her tenure as President of the Fort Wayne Board of Realtors, the family bonds she created through her love and support, and her joyful and loyal friendships that will remain in the hearts and minds of her sister, her children, her grandson, nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends who will miss her dearly. She will be forever remembered for her grace, dignity, good cheer, and unconditional love.

Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Reserve Towne Lake Community for their devoted care and compassion for Kathy in the last years of her life

Kathy is survived by her sister, Marcia Fort (née Smith); daughter, Marilyn Shultz and her husband, Tom Spence; son, Dr. Clifford Shultz II and his wife, Katherine Shultz (née Murphy); and grandson, Matthew Shultz. She was predeceased by her brother, Don Smith.
