KAY STINSON Obituary

KAY KAREN (KINGERY) STINSON, 81, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Kingston Memory Care, Fort Wayne. Born March 22, 1936, in Worthington, Minn., she was a daughter of John and Mathilda Kingery. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1954. She attended Worthington Community College where she studied Library Science. Her life's "work" was being a stay at home mom to her three children, David, Karen and Matt and caring for her husband Richard and all their family pets. Kay's father raised Percherons and he helped to foster her love for horses and other animals. She was very passionate about supporting our disabled Veterans and the S.P.C.A., as well as, being an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She and Richard enjoyed retirement, particularly during the holidays where they spent countless hours decorating their house in their two favorite holiday themes; Halloween and Christmas. Kay was the sports fanatic of the family who followed her hometown Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. She loved to cook, especially desserts, baking thousands of cookies for the Bruin football team from 1998 to 2003, where she was affectionately known as "Grandma Stinson". Kay is survived by her children, David (Cheri) of Fort Wayne, Karen (Christ Milienu) of Terre Haute and Matt (Diane) of Fort Wayne; sister, Janet Ecclestone of Fort Wayne; brother, Michael (Janet) Kingery of Willmar, Minn.; five grandchildren, Christen (Ryan) Hamman of Fort Wayne, Candace (Justin) Fulbright of Phoenix, Ariz., Caitlyn Dean, Natalie Williams and Dalton Stinson, all of Fort Wayne; and three great-grandchildren, Aleena, Jayden and Beckett Hamman, all of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mathilda; brother, Kenneth; husband Richard; and sister, Edith Welch. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne; Allen County S.P.C.A., 4914 Hanna St., Fort Wayne; or the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Kingston at Dupont Memory Care. For the past five years the staff have gone above and beyond caring for Kay. "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for lovingly caring for our mom." Condolences may be left in online guestbook at www.domccombandsons.com

I was thinking of Kay today, and decided to Google her. Lavon and I were saddened to learn of her passing. We have happy memories of our friendship with your family when we lived in the Columbus, Ohio, area, and the activities our families did together. She was such a nice lady!
