LARRY McCURDY Obituary

LARRY K. McCURDY, 63, of Defiance, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Defiance, Ohio. Born Nov. 28, 1946, in Fort Wayne, son of the late Fordice and the late Bernice (Rex) McCurdy, he was a 1964 graduate of Hicksville High School. On Sept. 11, 1984, he was united in marriage with Margery Hammon; she survives. Larry was a Lieutenant with the Defiance County Sheriff's Office from Nov. 1, 1974 until his retirement on Jan. 16, 2009. He was previously employed by Dana Weatherhead in Antwerp, Ohio, while also a part-time police officer for the Hicksville Police Department. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance, Ohio, Hicksville Masonic Lodge 478, serving as Master in 1982, National Sheriff's Association and the Buckeye Sheriff's Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa (John) Ritter of Galesburg, Mich., Laura (Matt) Reineke and Laressa, both of Defiance, Ohio; and seven grandchildren. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance, Ohio, with visitation one hour prior to service at the church. The Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Visitation also from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, Ohio, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Burial in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan.
