In 1985, Larry was elected to the National Governing Council of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and was a member of the National Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He achieved his Senior Real Property Appraiser designation and MAI from the Appraisal Institute.

Larry met his first wife, Anna May Wilkerson Misner, at State Farm, and they were married in 1964. Together they had three children, Jeffrey Todd Misner, David Scott Misner, and Scott Anthony Misner.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, his father, DeLoyd, his older sister, Joann Liebert, and his grandchild, Wesley Misner.
