LARRY LeROY REYNOLDS, 79,of Columbia City, died peacefully Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 8:35 a.m., holding hands with his wife, at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City. Born Sept. 24, 1941 in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was the son of the late Leon R. and Jeanett E. (James) Reynolds. Growing up in Fort Wayne, he graduated from Central High School in 1960. Continuing his education, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.On Dec. 28, 1963, he married Elizabeth "Libby" Kay Beckman. They made their home at Holiday Lakes outside of Garrett. In 1985, they moved to South Whitley and in 2002 to Columbia City. Larry was a career-long employee of International Harvester, retiring as the Heavy Truck Platform Director with 35 years of service. In 1999, the couple purchased and personally restored the nostalgic Kent Theater in South Whitley, showing first-run movies to the area residents. Remembered for their hospitality and fresh popcorn, it was the weekend destination for many. They sold the theater in 2006. Turning his business skills and giving nature to help better the community, he served on the Board of Passages, Inc. and was instrumental in developing the Clugston Senior Apartments. He served as the campaign chair of the United Way of Whitley County when they exceeding their fundraising goal. He was active for many years with the Salvation Army and served as the Building Commissioner for the town of South Whitley. Larry enjoyed being at the lake, mowing the yard, making his famous chili, restoring pedal cars, he was an avid volunteer and giver, but the true love of his life was being with and supporting his grandchildren. He was a member of St Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Libby; children, Julie L. (Mark) Espich of Columbia City, Michael S. (Kelly) Reynolds of Lebanon, and Jennifer L. (Doug) Krull of Sidney; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Flora Mae O'Dell of Corpus Christy, Texas.The funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 S. Line St., Columbia City, with visitation one hour before the service. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at Cedar Creek Cemetery, Garrett. Preferred memorials in Larry's honor are to the Salvation Army or Passages, Inc. Condolences may be sent
