LEONARD GERARDOT Obituary

LEONARD SYLVESTER GERARDOT, 87, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Mon-roeville, died on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, 2:15 p.m., at home, surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 19, 1922, in Wood-burn, son of the late Charles and Ellen (Cayot) Gerardot, he was a 1940 graduate of Woodburn High School. Leonard served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Balduck, serving three years, three months, three days as a metalsmith. He married Aleta R. Singer on Feb. 5, 1946, in San Diego, Calif., they were married over 62 years; she preceded him in death on June 10, 2008. Leonard was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, and enjoyed woodworking, growing flowers, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne M. (Ron) Koch of Harlan, Lois A. (Neil) Ternet of Monroeville, Joyce L. (Steve) Seward of Fort Wayne, Jill B. (Darryl) Averyhart of Columbia, S.C., Mary E. Gerardot of Fort Wayne; son, Ernest E. Gerardot of Carmel; daughters, Jane G. (Dave) Ward of Kendallville, Lisa K. (Rob) Sefranek of Montgomery, Ill.; sons, Mark C. (Jennair) Gerardot of Carmel, Barry A. (Jana) Gerardot of Leo; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nora L. Orr; one grandson, Jakob Johnson; four brothers, Francis, Julian, Clarence and Ralph F. Gerardot, Sr.; and six sisters, Anna Bowers, Bernadette Huguenard, Marcella Spieth, Agnes Spieth, Rose Spieth and Isabelle Henry. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Father Jim Kumbakkeel officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville. Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to Friends of St. Joseph School, Monroeville or Parkview Home Health & Hospice. You have my deepest sympathy. I know how hard it is to lose a parent no matter our age. I have had many of you in school and have thought about you over the years.

We really had never met Mr. Gerardot personally, but have heard many good things about him and his love of woodworking and family from his daughter Mary. God bless your family in your time of grief, I am sure he will be sorely missed.
