Leslie Stansell Obituary

LESLIE ELIZABETH STANSELL, 74, of Columbia City, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, 3:06 a.m., at the Parkview Hospital Fort Wayne. She was born in Arlington, Mass., Jan. 31, 1929, the daughter of Florence Grace Reid and Stanley McMordie. She grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School with the Class of 1946. She received her Bachelor's Degree and her registerd nursing degree from Simmons College, Somerville, Mass., and her Master's Degree in Nursing from Ball State University, Muncie, with honors. She married James C. Stansell, Dec. 12, 1955, at Harvard Methodist Church in Cambridge, Mass. She was employed as a nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital and also in Frankfort, Lebanon, and Fort Wayne. She received her Nursing Home Administrator's License and worked at Colonial Crest Nursing Home, Parnell Park Nursing Home and Oxford Nursing Home. She served as the Health Educator-Nurse at Horizon Learning Center for Special Needs Children for 14 years, Elkhart, retiring in 1994. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Columbia City, and the Optimistic Seniors of the church and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her husband, Pastor James C. Stansell of Columbia City; sons, Jim (Becky) Stansell of Columbia City, John (Debbie) Stansell of Indianapolis; daughter, Judi (Keith) Heimpel of Sycamore, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Florence McMordie. Funeral service is 6 p.m. today at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with Pastor J. Phillip Blake and the Rev. J. Robert Fields, Bloomington, Ind., officiating. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be given, in Mrs. Stansell's memory, to Leslie Stansell Memorial Scholarship Fund for Nursing. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
