LUCY L. "SIS" ICKES

LUCY L. "SIS" ICKES, 93, of Churubusco, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at her home. She graduated from LaOtto High School, and was honored as Onion Queen as a young lady. She was married in 1939 to Eugene V. Ickes, and moved to Churubusco from Ari in 1963. A retired employee of Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ege, its Rosary Society, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered at St. Andrew's Soup Kitchen in New Haven, and was a member of Smith Township Home Demonstration Club. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. She is survived by her son Terry (Beth) Ickes of Fort Wayne; brother Otho "Pat" Bryie of Lakeland, Fla.; grandsons Scott Ickes and David (Melissa) Ickes, both of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Ickes and Mikayla Ickes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bessie (Rosenogle) Bryie; and by her husband in 1989 who was the owner of Churubusco Watch for many years. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ege. Father Danney Pinto, the celebrant. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, with Rosary at 8 p. m. Burial in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. Memorials to masses or Heartland Hospice.
