MARY AUST Obituary

MARY KATHRYN "MARY KAY" HOLVEY AUST, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at her family home. Born in Terre Haute, Ind., she was a daughter of the late John Holvey and Beatrice (Defel) Holvey. Mary Kay was a graduate of Wiley High School in Terre Haute, Ind. where she was a member of the National Honor Society, served as secretary and president of the Blue Tri Women's organization and was a member of the Queen's Homecoming Court. She often said her days in high school were some of the happiest times in her life. After high school, she studied nursing at Indiana State University and did her clinical rotations at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, obtaining a BSN degree. During her time at Indiana State, she was admitted to the Kappa Delta Pi National Honorary Education Fraternity and was a member of Kappa Kappa Social Sorority. She was on the Homecoming Court of Indiana State. She loved children, and worked as a school nurse in Indianapolis and at Riley Children's Hospital at the IU Medical Center, where she met her husband, the late Charles H. Aust Sr., MD. After the family moved to Fort Wayne, she was an active member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority and the Fort Wayne Medical Auxiliary, serving as president in 1976. She was a member of the Visiting Nurse Association and worked as a visiting nurse in Fort Wayne and later in Florida. She also was a hospice nurse with Hospice of Florida and a case manager and field supervisor with Neighborly Senior Services in Florida. She enjoyed reading, music, traveling, national politics, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Audubon Society and an avid bird watcher. She loved animals, especially dogs. Her most loved activity was doing for, and being with her children. She was a wonderful devoted and loving mother, and always put her personal concerns second to those of her children and family. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy and Carol; three sons, John, Jim and Dr. Charles H. (Kelly) Aust Jr.; two grandchildren, Tom Bradshaw and Aubrey Aust; and three cousins, Jean Holvey, Pete (Dee) Holvey, and her cousin, Mary Alice (Klein) Langdon (whom she held a dear place in her heart for). In her later years, she suffered from dementia, yet she maintained her kind demeanor and intention to support family and friends. Service is 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Community Church, Visiting Nurse Hospice, or A.C.S.P.C.A. To sign the online guestbook, visit www.domccombandsons.com
