Melba and my mom (Vivian Gayheart ) enjoyed each other's company they talked everyday. Melba heart was broken when my mom went to heaven she came and visited my dad and me afterwards. She was a sweetheart and told you how it is and enjoyed her church and church family. she will be dearly missed. I'm sure my mom got to meet her at the Heavens Gate.

I remember Melba's encouragement: Give her the reins, she said to her son Bruce, who was tired of leading me around on their pony, Ginger. Deb can ride fast, stay on, and control that pony, she exclaimed. As an eight-year-old child those words meant much to me, and I did ride as fast as the wind!
I remember Melba's dedication: Not only did she take her boys to church every Sunday, she also piled into the back of a tiny sports car anyone else who wanted to attend. My sisters, brothers, and I heard about the saving-grace of Jesus Christ because of her love and obedience to her Savior.
I remember Melba's care and concern for her mother-in-law, who for many years lived in a trailer on their property. I'm not sure I ever thanked her for taking this responsibility and for the love she showed my grandma.
I remember her accent. It was unusual. It was beautiful. It was a reflection of who she was.
I remember her creamed corn, grilled corn, Jell-O desserts, and sheet cakes. She was an exceptional cook, and we looked forward to family reunions where her yummy treats could be found.
I remember my young son's description of Melba's knowledge of nature: Aunt Melba knows everything about plants. She took me on a walk in the woods and named every green thing we passed. She sure is smart!
I will always remember how she began our phone conversations: Deb...this is Melbayour aunt. Do you recognize my voice?
