I had the chance to serve with Msgt Hiester when he was the training NCO for E Troop. It has been such a long time since I have had any news of any of the men that I served with. It was and honor to serve with him and I know that the world is a lesser place without him.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I only got to know Mike for 2 years but I learned alot from him. My first fire I went in with Mike and didn't get scared because Mike was someone I knew I could trust. Dont ever hesitate to look me up if you ever need anything.

Dear Dawn and family, I just want to pay my condolences to you and your family, I have known Mike since the 6th grade, he was a big reason, I rejoined the military. He was my platoon sergent for 3years and I talked to him whenever I had the chance here in Afghanistan. I just want you to know that the members of E-troop were there to escort him onto the plane and had the honor of taking his Flag down from the flagpole at Camp Phoenix, we have been with him on his journey home. Mike was a good person, a great leader and mentor, and a very good friend who will be greatly missed. I consider it an honor to have known Mike.

Michael is one of the most proficient and positive soldiers that I have had the honor of serving with during my 35 years in the Indiana Army National Guard. Nothing was impossible to Mike. Complex things could easily be reasoned out.
I was at the funeral and the procession to the cemetery. Bluffton did Mike proud.
I am truly sorry for your loss.

Tom - Since I left Bluffton in 1959, I did not have the opportunity to know your son, Michael. From the newspapers articles and letters I have read, it is clear that you did well as a father and husband. Michael was obviously a good man and certainly a good soldier. Dear Hiester Family,
Let me first say how sorry I am for your loss. There are no words that express exactly how I felt upon hearing the news of Michael's death. He was a childhood friend that I haven't seen in years. He looks just as I remember him. You must be very proud of what a brave and giving man he was. He is the first person I have known to die in this war...It has definately made it more personal for me.
As a parent,I look at my two children, and can't imagine the sorrow you must feel. He was still your baby, no matter his age. I look at my husband, and can't imagine all that Dawn must be going through as well. Michael has left Adam and Emily with an example of true sacrifice and service. I hope that they find comfort in knowing their daddy died a hero, and that his legacy lives on in them. I will keep you all in my thoughts, and pray that God gives you all that you need as you grieve both now and in the future.

I worked with Michael as a young man when he was in our Senior High youth group at church. I remember how he wanted to devote his life for full-time ministry for the Lord.
Now as I read of all the accomplishments God allowed Michael to achieve, I believe his life's goal has been realized. I believe all the lives he has touched, and all the ways he has helped to make this world a better place.. are true
today because of that high calling he felt as a young man.
