MILDRED L. SMOLEK

MILDRED L. SMOLEK, 90, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett. She was born July 12, 1924 in Morrow, Ohio, a daughter of Ward and Myrtle (Croy) Lehman. She was a member of the First Church of Christ of Garrett and worked for 27 years at Kraft Foods before retiring in 1986. Mildred married Richard Paul Smolek on Feb. 28, 1944 in Covington, Ky., and he passed away Oct. 21, 1983. Surviving are her five children, James (Linda) Smolek of Auburn, Darlene (Neal) Fittje of International Falls, Minn., Paula (Mark) Herring of Leesburg, Ind., Deb (Terry) Hypes of Waterloo and Rhonda (Jim) Bradin of Garrett; nine grandchildren, Steve (Amy) Smolek, Angie (John) Platt, Ami (Juan) Soliz, Jim Fittje, Lynne Fittje, Todd Russell, Travis Hypes, Troy (Jessica) Hypes and John Paul Bradin; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Richard Smolek; a daughter, Carmi Smolek; a sister, Alberta Mars; and two brothers, Delbert Lehman and Ward Lehman, Jr. A graveside service is 11 a.m. Friday at Fairfield Cemetery, Corunna, Ind.
