MORTON HENRY Obituary

MORTON PAUL HENRY, 85, formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at Halifax Hospice Home, in Port Orange, Fla. Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Charles and Irene Henry. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, in 1951, after which he served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. Following his military service, Mort returned to Fort Wayne and worked at ITT and for Henry Electric before moving to florida where he worked as an independent electrical contractor on several commercial projects in the Orlando area, including the original Disney World construction. Mort was an active member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, Fla., and volunteered with many church and civic organizations including Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and the Halifax Hospice Home. "Uncle Morty" was a gentle soul who took great joy in humoring his many nieces and nephews. He loved his church and her simple devotions and the community with which he congregated. He was a sports enthusiast and cherished college football, particularly the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He was political - a lifelong Democrat who had a sensitivity towards those who lived on the margins. He enjoyed his Pabst Blue Ribbon, his trusty Almanac, old movies and old-time comedies. Mort is survived by his sister, Carol Henry Venderley of Fort Wayne; several nieces and nephews as well as extended family; and stepson, Scott Buckland. He was also preceded in death by his spouses, Mary Henry and Dee Henry; and brothers, Charles Henry, Jerome Henry and Eugene Henry. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 1515 Barthold St., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. A Celebration of Life will follow interment at Deer Park Irish Pub. He will be laid to rest nest to his first wife Mary Henry at Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Even though Mort died a few years ago, I have never forgotten him. I pray daily that God will have mercy on his soul. We were able to talk to each other just a few days before he passed. He knows that I am praying for him because we had an agreement that whoever died first would receive prayers from the other. Mort, may God have mercy on your soul.

My apologies to the entire family. Mort and I were good friends from high school until the time of his death. We have not seen each other since the 50th class reunion but we did talk frequently. Mort was always a joy to be with. I had the honor of meeting both of his wives and he was a good husband to each. We talked frequently about how some day it will be our turn to die. I can remember him calling and telling me that the Dr said he was in bad shape and shortly thereafter God called him home. We will have some Masses prayed for him. See you in heaven!!
