Nancy Bohren Obituary

Nancy Lynn Bohren, 81, of Barrington, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023, in her treasured home of more than 35 years. Nancy was born June 17, 1942, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Ernest and Margaret Bohren.

Nancy received her Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University and her masters in Education from St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She pursued a career in teaching and taught at public high schools both in Indiana and Illinois for much of her twenties and thirties. Nancy moved to Barrington in the 70's where she worked at Barrington Family Physicians helping run the office and becoming a mainstay and friend to everyone she met.

Nancy was a very dedicated Mom to her kids Chris and Lissa - spending countless early mornings driving to swim practice, Room Mom for classrooms, and involvement with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the LAFEP program to name a few. She is still remembered fondly by many former students as North Barrington Elementary's "Picture Lady" - not only for what they learned, but also for the candy she threw into the class at the conclusion of her visits.

Nancy was very active in the community doing volunteer work for Home of the Sparrow, helping out at her church, Garden Club and supporting multiple animal charities. She enjoyed traveling all over the world; it would be difficult to list places she hasn't visited, although it would most probably be somewhere snowy! One of her biggest passions was tennis. She loved being on the court as well as spectating off the court. Some of her travels included attending professional tennis tournaments including Wimbledon and the French Open.

Nancy is survived by her children, Christopher Hickman and Lissa Hickman Moon; grandchildren, Willem Moon (17) and Lucy Moon (15); siblings, Joyce Bohren, David Bohren and wife Jane, and his children Carmen and Chad, and Connie and Jon Mittler, and their children, Margaret Elise and Laura; and Westies, Chummy (11) and Mollie (10). Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Nancy's name to Foster Pet Outreach online at https://fosterpetoutreach.org/donate/ or via mail at P.O.
