NANCY COOLMAN Obituary

NANCY JEAN (OSTROOT) COOLMAN, of Fort Wayne, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loving family after battling leukemia for 12 years. Born April 10, 1943, in Gary, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Boyd (deceased in 2005) and Velma (deceased in 1998). She grew up in Portage, Ind., and graduated from Portage High School in 1961 and from Purdue University in 1965. On Aug. 25, 1963, she married Roy Arland Coolman, with whom she celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary the day before she died. A faithful christian, loving wife, and devoted mother, Nancy lived in Fort Wayne with her husband for over half a century. She was involved in the lives of countless people, inside and outside her home. Active in several Christian communities, a foster mom, public speaker, counselor, mentor, piano teacher, homemaker, grandmother, and friend, she touched many and inspired more by her vibrant faith, radiant joy, constant attentiveness, and nurturing presence. She brought love into the life of every person she met, and every one of them is richer for having known her. Survived by husband, Roy; sisters, Karen Fritz, Ruthann Chaddock and Anita (Jay) Stevens; children, Boyd (Holly) Coolman, Bradley (Shindok) Coolman, Ann (John) Hughes, and Barak (Valerie) Coolman; and grandchildren, Audrey, Frances, Anna, Emily, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Arland, Christopher, Gloria, James, Jenisis, Eli, Kyla, Caleb, Isaiah, Nancy, Peter, and Caroline. Mass of Christian Burial is 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46825). Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at the Life Center prior to Mass where Eulogies will be shared from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Chapel, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46825). Burial at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. I will never forget the Coolmans. Doing some morning chores and then playing all day with Boyd and Brad on their homestead made my childhood. I remember Nancy as the leader of the Good News Club, where she gave me my first Bible. I still have that Bible and will always cherish it.
She was kind, caring and generous - the image of grace.
Prayers to Roy, Boyd, Brad, Ann and Barak and the rest of the Coolman family. We will see her again.

So sorry to learn of Nancy's passing. My thoughts and prayers to Roy and all their family. Nancy and I shared a great adventure helping our husbands start a veterinary practice all those many years ago. Precious memories!

Nancy came into my life when I was a 17 year old mixed up, confused, wounded and broken teen. She loved me unconditionally. My life had been blessed so much because of her and Roy opening their home and hearts to me all those years ago. She has always with no exceptions been the epitome of a Christ like example in my life. I am honored to have known her. I love you Nancy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Nancy always had a smile and kind word for everyone. I especially remember her inclusion of a young female veterinarian, me, into the veterinary community. She was truly, a generous, thoughtful friend.
