Mr. Fowerbaugh always lit up the room. His intelligence, humor, and kindness were much appreciated. Whenever he was our substitute teacher, I knew a day full of learning and wonderful personal stories were in store. Your family is in our prayers and thoughts.

I met Dr. & Mrs. Fowerbaugh at the Catholic University of America table at the college fair at Bishop Luers Highschool. Their enthusiasm for the school and their personal interest in me and my success made me choose the University, although I was a bit worried about moving to a city where I knew no one and had no family. Each year when they came to CUA for the reunion and homecoming weekend, they would visit me in my dorm, bring me something special and take me out to eat. They were my family at Catholic University and they were like grandparents that I could always count on & I remember thinking to myself how lucky I was to have them. So much laughter every time I saw Dr. Fowerbaugh, he always knew how to make every conversation more lively and fun. He used to give my boyfriends a hard time and call my mom to give her an update about how I was doing. I went through a lot my 3 years at Catholic, & I can say that although I know I never had a chance to share this with them, the Fowerbaughs really helped me get through more difficult times than they ever knew with their kind support, thoughtful words, hugs and presence. I will forever have love and gratefulness in my heart.

Mr. Fowerbaugh would bring grain into my dad's elevator where I worked. He always brought a smile to my face.

When I see the picture of Dick, I immediately see him driving his tractor down South Bend Drive. A good neighbor and a great father to his kids. I know you will all have lots of wonderful memories to recall with laughter. That is a real blessing!

I was one of "Doc" Fowerbaugh's eighth grade students at St. Mary's from 1982-1983. I was the girl he called a "social butterfly". He was my favorite teacher of all time! He spoke often of his children when he taught us. All of his students knew how proud he was of all of you. He would brag about how smart his kids were. I remember thinking if he was such a wonderful teacher that he must be an amazing dad. The field trips we took on that bus will be forever in my memory, as will Doc Fowerbaugh. I would have enjoyed talking with him in later life because I'm sure he was over the moon with sons and daughters in law and most of all grandbabies! My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family during this most difficult of times.

When I was a kid more than 50 years ago, one of my favorite places to visit was the Fowerbaugh home. All the boys were great with us kids, but Richard was special. There's just nothing that can compare to riding on his shoulders racing through the house, wondering if we were going to clear the next doorway. Later in life, I cherished Richard's enthusiasm for life and still felt special in his presence. I'm lucky to have such a special cousin and friend.

I have fond memories of Dr Fowerbaugh during his years at Cathedral. He was a large tall man that commanded attention and respect of the 7th and 8th grade students that he taught as well as any time you had to visit him in his role as principal. During the two years that I was in his classes, he used everyday events taken from the TV news, news papers, and even some of the sit-coms on TV (M*A*S*H was his favorite) and incorperate those into life lessons that he passed along to each student in an effort to build character, self respect, common sense, kindness and humility. Many of those lessons would be recalled later in life as some event would trigger a memory and then one of those lessons would flash back and we would be reminded of a time when life was a little slower, but still full of things to learn, people to meet and relationships to build. All with the values that the Doc instilled upon us at a young impressionable age, that I know many of us have carried thru our lifetimes beyond Cathedral.

Thanks for the memories and for the life lessons you taught. May God look down on your family & provide confort and guidence during this difficult time.
