RAYMOND SCHOWE Obituary

RAYMOND "RAY" JOSEPH SCHOWE, 91, of Angola, Ind., died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021. He was the son of Edwin and Josephine (Gros jean) Schowe. "It has been said that when the love of your life passes, you are more likely to follow closely behind from a broken heart - with Ray, there was no truer statement." Ray retired from Rea Magnet Wire in Fort Wayne after 35 years of service. He was the first St. Vincent de Paul, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 2 Scoutmaster. In 1960, the Troop had 11 members and with the strong program and leadership of Ray, in only five years, the number of Scouts increased to 110. In 13 years as Scoutmaster, 24 Scouts achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a remarkable achievement. Ray was the recipient of many awards over his tenure as Scoutmaster, including the prestigious Silver Beaver award bestowed upon those "persons who give continued, unselfish, and effective service to the community and Boy Scouts of America." Ray's service to Scouting was only surpassed by his love, devotion and commitment to his wife Regina, "Jeannie." Ray is survived by his sons, Terrence (Carolyn) Schowe and Gerald (Carol) Schowe; four grandchildren, Kate (Joe), Scott (Zoe), Anna and Jessica; great-grandson, Emmett; and brother, Robert (Jodie) Schowe. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 70 years, Regina "Jeannie" Schowe; brothers, Lester Schowe and Edwin Schowe; and sister, Winifred Schowe. "Dad, you were the light in the window that safely guided us home all these years to the deep and abiding love of our family. You will be missed every hour and every minute of each day that follows." Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior and a Rosary service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery. Great Uncle Ray's loving generosity hosting our family for summer weekends water skiing on the lake created fond memories from my childhood. With love - Cynthia (Cindy Schowe) Olavarría

We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Terry, Jerry and their families. I have so many wonderful memories of my uncle Ray. Had it not been for uncle Ray purchasing 'Pancho' I would never had the wonderful experience of being bucked off many times! When uncle Ray and aunt Jeannie would go to Komets hockey games I would baby sit Terry and Jerry and make sugar popcorn and hide it for them to find. Uncle Ray tirelessly tried to teach me how to slalom ski but I could never do it like 'Queen Bee'!!! My brother Timmy, Terry, and Jerry all went to the famed Boy Scout Camp, Philmont, New Mexico with uncle Ray where they earned the distinction of becoming Eagle Scout. Uncle Ray was enthusiastic about flying model airplanes. We used to go to the Boy Scout Campground by Pleasant Lake to watch him. It was always so much fun to go to the cottage at Jimmerson Lake (the one with the I.U. flag) and swim, ski, fish, and enjoy being with family. Uncle Ray and Queen Bee will live forever in my heart.

For years, Uncle Ray and Aunt Jeannie lived next to us in the "Auburn road gang " area. I learned how to shoot a bow and arrow; ride a donkey and to eat the
"bananas " from the Paw Paw tree as well as hunt for "Indian" artifacts on Grandma and Grandpa´s property from Uncle Ray. He so loved the outdoors and taught so much to many of us. He and Jeannie loved to laugh as well and told many a joke to me. As he aged and I phoned him he always told me how much he appreciated my phone calls. He and Jeannie were like a second set of parents to me. Mike and Ray became friends when Ray was flying his "planes" and Mike used to watch. Ray showed him how it was done.
So many wonderful memories that have gone by "like the wind on your cheek". Way to fast.
Rest In Peace with your beautiful bride in Heaven Uncle Ray. You will be missed
