Dr. Stanger was an inspiration to the hundreds of students he touched while serving at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. Many, many of us recall him as a good listener and source of solid counsel.

A major contribution of his time on earth was the decade he gave to MacMurray College and his influence on the lives of students and staff in several roles, especially as chaplain!

So sad to hear of this wonderful man's passing! I studied under and revered Dick's tutelage while at MacMurray College. He was instrumental in my entering the ministry and his guidance has stayed with me all these years. God's speed, wonderful Pastor!

Dear Allison, Karen, Robert and families:
I extend my deepest and sincerest condolences on the passing of your father/grandfather.
I have many fond memories of him and his ministry at Plymouth. It was through him that I returned to Christian faith at age 21 after being absent from it, as was the young adult custom, for some years.
He had a superb gift of speaking with such depth and fluency and he knew how to hold people´s attention. I recall his officiating at my paternal grandfather´s funeral; especially his using a quote "Orin Darling did not shilly-shally." I recall his engaging and empathetic manner. He would literally "light up a room" when he appeared. He also provided a sense of stability when dealing with and discussing contentious issues.
Most of all, there is the annual Boar´s Head and Yule Log Festival which he introduced and was ably
directed by his dear wife, Joan, for
many years. Even though I´ve lived in Chicago over 30 years, I still return to participate as it is a holiday centerpiece for me.
While we mourn his passing, we shall cherish the many memories of his ministry, talents, and warm manner.
My thoughts and prayers are with you now and always.
