RICK LYNN RHOADES

RICK LYNN RHOADES, 65, of Fort Wayne, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2021. Born Nov. 28, 1955, in Columbia City, he was a son of Ronald and Christine Rhoades. The youngest of a family of five, legend has it that he was born with a smile on his face and a heart of gold. Growing up he was known for his goofy jokes and love of sports. In 1975, he married the love of his life Deborah Bucher. Soon after, they welcomed their children. Rick was a star athlete in high school and had dreams of playing collegiate baseball. With a young family to take care of, Rick paused his pursuit of higher education and began working for Lincoln Financial in 1976. There he dedicated his intelligence and kindness for 45 years. After finishing his Bachelor's degree from IPFW, he earned his Master's of Business from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2001. Rick was a life-long learner and continued to rack up degrees and certifications throughout his career. A lover of all things sports, he was a dedicated participant and observer. When he wasn't running marathons or playing in basketball and softball leagues he was pursuing new ways to use his physical talents. Off the courts, he was a loyal Colts and IU basketball fan. He had a sharp mind for sports facts and enjoyed analyzing game plays with his grandson. Rick is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughter, Trisha; son, Justin; sisters, Lana Wheeler and Teresa Helton; brothers, Roger and Ron Rhoades; grandchildren, Cole Wells, Oscar, Olive, and Otto Rhoades; son-in-law, Ed Rosario; and daughter-in-law, Gemma Metzger. Memorial is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, where the family will be there to welcome friends and relatives. Masks appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Fort Wayne in memory of Rick's dogs, past and present.
