ROBERT A. ALT

ROBERT A. ALT, 76, of Van Wert, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, 5 a.m., at Vancrest Healthcare Center in Van Wert. He was born April 27, 1933, in Fort Wayne, son of the late Juanita (Hamilton) and Anthony Alt. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving on the destroyer, Colahan and also attended Indiana University. He retired as an accountant at Navistar in 1988, after 28 years of service. He formerly owned and operated the Old Theatre Antique Mall in Pierceton. He was also a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. He married Nancy (Nichols) Alt; she preceded him in death in 1992. On Oct. 6, 1999, he married Joan (Stemen) Alt; she survives in Van Wert. Also surviving are children, Theresa (Steven) Carter of Indianapolis and Michele (Darrell) Stidham of Columbia City; stepdaughter, Diana (Chris) Creekmore of Van Wert; stepsons, David Putman of Fort Wayne and Dennis (Laura) Putman of Van Wert; brothers, Ronald (Sharon) Alt of Crossville, Tenn., Gordon Alt of Washington D.C. and Vincent (Kathy) Alt of Fort Wayne; sister, Marlene Buesching of Fort Wayne; one grandchild, Kody Stidham; and seven step-grandchildren, Alyson, Eric, John, Ashley and Tyler Putman and Drew and Spencer Creekmore. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Alt. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. The Rev. Mike Zacharias Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert. Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
