Though we were not close after our U.S. Navy years due to moving away from our home area of Aurora, Indiana, I'm sure we remained close in our hearts. Bob will remain in my memories as a good friend, more than just a classmate. The last time I saw him in person was when my Father died in 1987. Bob and I found ourselves visiting another fellow classmate at Raye Vernon Gregory's home in Aurora at the same time. Bob had not changed in appearance and our visit was way too short. Raye has since joined Bob. That was the last time I saw Bob's brother Elvin Earl Bruce, also a close friend in Dearborn County, Indiana. Elvin and I have obviously been blessed with carrying on the memories.

Robert "Bob" Bruce and I were friends for many years, as we grew up on the Aurora, IN. Northside only a few blocks apart and attending the Northside School. Then Aurora High School, in the class of 59, probably the most close class that ever graduated there. Bob and I couldn't seem to see where our lives were headed after graduation, so when November rolled around we met with a Navy recruiter and because we had completed school we were promised a Navy School and left for boot camp at Great Lakes on the buddy system, so we were in the same Company #552. Upon completion of boot camp we were both sent to Memphis, TN. for the same school, Aviation Hydraulics. From Memphis we were finally separated, with orders to different locations. For the rest of our lives, we saw each other one more time in 1987.
I was also friends of Bob's brother Elvin and we have continued to have contact with one another.
I continue to think of Bob frequently to this day, as old friends are forever!

Your loss is my loss. Bob and I were H.S. classmates of 59, joined the U.S. Navy on the buddy system in boot camp/school in Memphis together. However Elvin was my best man. Sorry I was unable to attend services for a great friend. Dave 1205 Eastwood Dr. Rockville, IN 47872
