Roland D. Waters

ROLAND D. WATERS, 82, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at his home. He was an Allen county native, and graduated from New Haven High School, in 1942. He served in the 8th Air Force during World War II as an aerial gunner on a B-24. He also served during the Korean War in the military fire department where he became the first military fire inspector. He was awarded two Air Medals and two presidential citations during his Air Force tenure. He worked for Dana Corp. for over 40 years, retiring in 1989. Old timers would remember when they put sawdust in the rear axles to quiet them. It is not done anymore because of the accomplishments that he was able to make in the quality drive axles while working at Dana, in 1948. He was a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church and Southgate Lodge 731 F & AM. He is survived by a sister, Bernice Bowman of Albion; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorieann; father, Peter C.; mother, Martha Ellen (Moore); one sister; and two brothers. Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Visitation is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by Southgate Lodge 731.
