SARA HACKER Obituary

SARA McCARTHY HACKER, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Dec. 10, 1941 to the late Frank and Rosemary (Nagel- sen) McCarthy. Sara remained a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne where she married the love of her life, Hank, and raised their three children. She graduated from the University of Saint Francis with a Psychology degree and went on to teach in the Catholic school system. Sara volunteered through Junior League and was a co-leader in the Girl Scouts organization. Sara, Hank, and their family spent summers at their cottage on Lake Wawasee. During the winter, the two enjoyed their condominium on Siesta Key in Florida. Their children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends were the central focus of Sara and Hank's lives. Sara was warm-hearted and sunny and had a personality that drew people to her. She listened to everyone and offered her wise advice. Sara had the most positive outlook especially in the face of obstacles. Everyone felt joy and happiness in her company. She was the embodiment of her favorite color, yellow. Sara is survived by her children, Jim (Julie) Hacker, Liz (Bob) Hathaway, both of Fort Wayne, and Mike (Laura) Hacker of Greenwood, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Madison (Andrew) Green, Ethan, Joe, Meagan, Tatum, Mackenzie, and Chase; two sisters, Mari (David) Crumb and Kara (Michael) Mullen; three nieces; two nephews; and five great-nieces and -nephews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Hacker. A private celebration of Sara's life will be held in the Spring. Arrangements entrusted to Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Our deepest sympathy to Sara´s family. I know you were all so supportive of her.
I am a very old friend, but wanted to let you know how much she meant to all her friends. We were very close for much of our formative years from 5th grade through college. She was in my wedding and I treasure her friendship. She was a lovely lady and I have many precious memories of our time together.
I contacted her in FL after Hank´s passing and we were able to catch up.
Sara did come into my thoughts a few weeks ago during my prayers. I have had her in them ever since.
So glad that both of you, Liz, had the blessing of holding her hand at the end. She will always be fondly remembered.
Love & prayers to all of you,
Sharon Madden Carr

I knew Sara back in 1986 (?) when I was working at Parkview. She was the highlight of my workday. I was expecting my first baby at the time and she was so sweet, giving useful advice. We laughed a lot and I thought the world of her. I am sorry for your loss and I imagine she left you all with lots of fun memories.
