The world lost the best surgeon ever! He had wonderful bedside manner. I was so fortunate that he was my doctor during the scariest time of my life. I will never forget how kind he was too. My sympathies to his family.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Steve's passing. We were residents together in neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic. Steve was a dedicated, trustworthy colleague in a very grueling program. It was uplifting to read about his career, family and accomplishments - a life well-lived!

What a fantastic surgeon he was! I worked at Parkview Surgery and worked with him. I was always amazed how those big hands could do such tedious surgeries. I also had the pleasure to work for him in the office. Great boss. Rest In Peace Dr Schroeder. I will never forget you.

Steve was an attentive neurosurgeon and made me feel valued as a colleague neuroradiologist always respecting my opinion. That was appreciated in a field with few women. My condolences to those who knew and loved him.

We will always be thankful for Dr Schroeder’s compassion and kindness when we consulted with him for our daughter’s brain tumor in 1981. He kindly referred us to a pediatric surgeon in Chicago. We will always be grateful for his humble and assuring way of referring us when we were at a loss as to what to do next.

He was a very skilled Doctor with a great bedside manner. Back in 1979, he carefully explained my son’s Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus surgeries and even drew shunt pictures for us on the leg of his green scrubs. I never forgot that.
Prayers for his family and loved ones.
Vicki Banks, mother of Mason Banks (now a healthy 42 year old).

Steve and I were friends in grade school and high school. He was a wild and crazy guy back then and we made some good memories. I saw him occasionally over the years and we would always retell our stories. He was a great guy and I'm sorry for his loss.
