THOMAS BEADIE Obituary
THOMAS NOBLE BEADIE, a longtime resident of Fort Wayne, died on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, in Greer, S.C. Born Nov. 1, 1927, in Floral Park, N.Y., he was a son of Frank and Charlotte (Noble) Beadie. He grew up in Bellerose and in Amsterdam, N.Y. A graduate of Sewanhaka High School on Long Island, he entered Columbia College in 1944 at age 16, but soon left to join the U.S. Merchant Marine Cadet Corps in 1945, training at Kings Point, N.Y., and serving in the Pacific during the last days of World War II. Returning to New York in 1946, he graduated from Columbia College in 1949 and from Columbia Law School in 1952. After law school, Tom worked for the admiralty law firm Kirlin, Campbell and Keating before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. From 1952 to 1954 he served in counterintelligence and as an instructor at the U.S. Army Intelligence School in Baltimore, Md. In 1954, he returned briefly to admiralty law before joining the General Electric Company as a corporate counsel. Tom remained with the company for 30 years, working at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Schenectady, N.Y.; the Lamp Works Division at Nela Park in Cleveland, Ohio; and at GE headquarters in Manhattan before becoming General Counsel for the Small Motors Division in Fort Wayne, a position he retained until retirement in 1986. Married for 65 years, he and his wife, Norma Tebbetts Beadie, continued to live in Fort Wayne until 2021 when they moved to Greer, S.C., to live with their son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Rosemary Beadie. Tom loved the water. He enjoyed annual family vacations to the Beadie-Ryan camp in the southern Adirondacks of New York State, where he sailed and indulged his pleasure in water games, card games, lawn games, practical jokes, and play of all kinds. He was an avid reader, bridge player, Scrabble player, crossword puzzler, tennis player, supporter of the arts, and a long-time member of Fort Wayne's First Presbyterian Church. Tom is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Nancy Beadie (Donald W. Argus, Jr.) of Seattle, Wash.; son, Douglas Beadie (Rosemary Morken Beadie) of Greer, S.C.; grandson, Tom Beadie (Joanna Daniels Beadie) of Greenville, S.C.; granddaughter, Sophia Rose Beadie of Portland, Ore.; sister, Margaret B.
