Velma Heckber Obituary

VELMA R. HECKBER, 82, of Ossian, died Wednes day, Feb. 13, 2008, at her daughter's residence in Rome City. Born June 22, 1925, in Yoder, she was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and volunteer seamstress at Ossian Healthcare. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 111, Rosary Sodality, and Ossian Women's Conservation Club. She married Dale Heckber on Oct. 12, 1946 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church; he died Nov. 11,, 1987. Surviving are her children, Larry (Michelle) Heckber and Steve (Kathy) Heckber, both of Ossian, Gene (Karol) Heckber of Fort Wayne, Tom (Pam) Heckber of Yoder, Michel (Julie) Heckber, David (Judy) Heckber of Ossian, and Lori Heckber of Rome City; family friend, Susan Miller of Rome City; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grand-children. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edward Sorg and Anna Krouse Sorg; and two brothers, Edwin and Wilbur Sorg. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Homes, Ossian, with Rosary service is 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to St. Aloysius Catholic Church Building Fund or Masses or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
