VICTOR MARTIN Obituary

VICTOR L. MARTIN, 73, of Fremont, Ind., died Sunday, March 7, 2021, at his home with his family at his side. Born April 28, 1947, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late James and Helen (Hilge mann) Martin. Vic earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Oklahoma, and he also completed classes at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. He established Martin Riley Architects-Engineers, and devoted over 30 years to designing a wide variety of projects in Fort Wayne and elsewhere. He was very active in his community and church. He was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne where he was a past District Deacon, House Committee Chairman, served on the Church Council, Call Committee and was two year consecutive city champion church league basketball coach. His love for everything trains started as a child and continued through his life, leading him to save and restore the Pennsylvania Train Station on Baker Street (downtown Fort Wayne) where he had his office. He truly loved and would try to see good in everyone and every situation. Vic married Nancy Kimmel on March 18, 1971 in Tulsa Okla.; she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jim (Zoe) Martin of Fort Wayne and Jeff Martin of Fort Wayne; three grandsons, Cash Martin, James Martin and Arley Martin; brother, David (Cathy) Martin of Nashville, Ind.; niece, Becky Martin of Washington, DC; nephew, Seth (Jessica) Martin of Lansing, Mich.; and brother and two sisters-in-law, Bill Kimmel, Janice Scudder and Doris Mathews. Private family services are planned in the coming days, and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. The family asks that memorials be given in Vic's name to The Carriage House, 3327 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805 or Lake George Conservancy, 1042 South Angola Road, Coldwater, MI 49036. Vic was a great friend, fellow church member and "Chairman of the Bear lounge" for many years. Our company used Vic's firm for several great projects and his personal company was always a great source of warmth and humor.
Many are the memories that make me smile just to think of his laugh and the happy times through the church and the lake.
God has gained greatly and we are diminished through his passing. God bless Nancy and the boys.

I worked closely with Vic during the construction of our new church, Resurrection Lutheran , just south of Huntertown. Vic was patient and a pleasure to work with. The ease with which we completed the project was directly attributed to his work with us. He will be missed.

I volunteered with Vic at Lutheran Life Villages and at Trinity Church. His ever-present smile and wit always brightened up any gathering. My Dad was a train buff as well, so he was a huge fan of Vic's when he restored the Baker St. station (or the "Pensey" station as my Dad called it). My thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy and the family. Our community lost a treasure, and Heaven gained another blessing.

May God Bless you with Peace as you celebrate Vic's life.
He lead with his faith and went Home knowing the Love of Jesus. As a professional he lead the same way. I enjoyed and cherished many projects under his leadership. Thanks be to God for Vic!!!

A brilliant man, a kind man, a thoughtful man. Never did I chat with Vic that I didn't go away with a unique thought to mull over.
