WAYNE WATERS Obituary

WAYNE ARTHUR WATERS, 93, passed away peacefullyon Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at home. He was a cherished husband, father, and grandpa. Born on March 9, 1929, Wayne was a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne. He graduated from Huntertown High School in 1947. At school, he played in the band, was in the Junior and Senior class plays, ran track, was on the softball team and was the school photographer his senior year. In 1950, he married his high school sweetheart Helen M. Gump. Wayne worked on the family farm and sold cars at Haynes & Potter in Auburn Ind., until his service in the Army, stationed in Atlanta Ga., from 1954 to 1956. In 1958, he joined Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. where he remained for 25 years, eventually rising to be an Assistant Vice President and the head of the company's travel department. In 1983, he took early retirement from Lincoln and started his own company - the travel agency 'Conference & Travel' which he built from the ground up starting with one client and six employees into a highly successful company with over 50 employees and hundreds of clients by the time he retired and sold the company to his daughter in 2000. Wayne traveled all over the world during his career planning and running meetings and award trips for Lincoln insurance agents and loved nothing more than to share stories of the special events he created and the creative ways he entertained the groups at these meetings. Wayne was also an avid car enthusiast and golfer. After his second retirement, he spent his time buying and working on cars in his Morton building at the edge of Huntertown that he called his "ToyBox". He also was adept at advising his kids and grandkids on life and business and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Wayne was a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church. Wayne leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Helen Waters; sons, Bradley (Kathy) Waters and Jeffry Waters; daughter, Ann Waters (David Faulkner); three grandchildren, Michael (Catherine) Waters, Molly Waters and Vivienne Faulkner; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Catherine Waters. Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 10001 Coldwater Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, at FairHaven Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St. A private graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
