WILLIAM SHAVER Obituary

WILLIAM CONKEY "BILL" SHAVER, 85, of Sarasota, Fla., went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Jan.13, 2012. Born June 9, 1926, in Gary, Ind., he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He attended Indiana University and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. As an automobile dealer, he owned and operated a Chevrolet dealership in Gary, Ind. for 50 years and a Chevrolet-Mitsubishi dealership, in Homewood, Ill. for over 40 years. He was also active in the commercial real estate market where he helped develop large commercial sites in both Gary and Merrillville, Ind. He served on many community and civic boards in both Gary, and Homewood. He was also director of the Heritage Glenwood Bank, Glenwood, Ill. In addition to automotive dealerships, he was also both owner / operator and distributor for both Mobil and Texaco Oil companies. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane (McKown) Shaver formerly of Warsaw; four children, John B. Shaver of Fort Wayne, Connie Shaver of Sarasota, Fla., Cindy (Shaver) Tilley of St. Petersburg, Fla., and William M Shaver of Marco Island, Fla.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Shaver of Tucson, Ariz. "Bill was an honest and successful businessman, a devoted husband, and a loving a dedicated father. He will be greatly missed!"

Cindy, Connie, Chip and Cubby - your dad was the nicest man and always had a smile on his face. I remember him driving us all around the neighborhood with his new RV. Hopefully you all are well - looks like most of you are in FL. I'm in Colorado Springs and active with the Audubon Society. Cindy, I'm going to try to track you down so we can catch up. We are so sorry to hear of your loss. I did not know of all the organizations he was involved with. Reading his obituary made me realize how incredible he really was. I always knew of him as the ultimate car man and a wonderful family man. I know daughter Connie the most. She is an incredible woman and I am sure that her dad had quite a bit to do with that.
