Carl Schultze Obituary

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Carl R. Schultze died on May 13, 2010, after a period of illness.

He was born on March 28, 1936 in Portsmouth, N.H., to Freda and Carl W. Schultze, founder of the New Hampshire Provision Company, best known for its Schultz hot dogs. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1954.

He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Alexandra and Alex Kerr; granddaughter, Lily, and daughters, Cynthia, Jennifer, and Amanda. He is also survived by three brothers, Donald, Frederick, and Robert Schultze, first wife and caregiver, Margreth Butterworth, and former second wife, Charlene Schultze. He proudly worked in his family's business for many years, and in the automobile business for a short time.

We remember his passion for iconic cars and fine guns. Carl was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent many summers lobstering off the coast of Portsmouth as a young adult. He loved to tell a good joke, and was admired for his tremendous memory of dates, people, and places.

He enjoyed his most cherished time with his children and new granddaughter.

A service in remembrance will be held on July 10 at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover, N.H., at 11 a.m.

To the Schultze Family. I will always remember his happy smile and early morning greeting, at 6 A.M., as he helped me load my truck. Carl was a good man. My sincere sadness to read of his passing.
