Colin Macaulay Obituary

DOVER, N.H. - Colin Macaulay, 74, of Sixth Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.

Born February 27, 1943 the son of Charles and Hazel (Owen) Macaulay. Colin was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his time surrounded by nature. He worked as a truck driver for Mobile Oil for many years but his love of hunting, fishing, gardening, building and nature brought him many friends and kindred spirits. Colin loved passing along the fruits of his garden labor; it brought him great pleasure to share his veggies with everyone who enjoyed them. His tomatoes and cukes have been envied and lovingly consumed over the years, and his knowledge has been passed along for generations of future gardeners to share.

Colin found peace somewhere in the middle of family, hot coffee with a fresh maple square, double-yellow lines, tree stands, unmarked hiking trails, wild blueberries, fresh lobster, native corn, pine trees, and tranquil fishing spots in New Hampshire waterways. He will be missed by many that he cared for quietly and deeply.

Colin is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Verna (Illingworth). He is also survived by his children, Kimberly Macaulay of Alton N.H., Bonnie Macaulay of Alton N.H., Shasheen Conroy of Dover N.H., Mark Macaulay of New York, N.Y., and Kylea Bernenstall of Massachusetts. He also leaves behind one sister, Nancy Grondin of Rochester N.H., several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as seven devoted grandchildren – Megan, Michaela, Samantha, Macaulay, Greyson, Colin and Quinn.

SERVICES: A graveside service will take place on Friday August 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary Cemetery in Dover, N.H.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Amedysis Foundation-Wentworth Hospice, 9 Andrews Road, Somersworth NH 03878, or The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312.

Verna, Kim and extended family,
So sorry to hear of your loss.
May all of your happy times together and your very special memories wrap around you in your time of sorrow and be a gentle
blanket of peace to sooth you.
I still remember seeing Colin driving by my house on many occasions in his beloved Corvette on his way down to Harvey's for breakfast. Simple pleasures is what it's all about.
RIP Colin.

So sorry for your loss. He was a great man and will definitely be missed. I stumbled upon this poem when trying to find the right words to say:

When I am gone, release me
let me go I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you love, you can only guess,
how much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love each have shown,
but now it is time I travelled alone.
So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,
then let your grief be comforted by trust
It is only for a while that we must part
so bless those memories within your heart.
I will not be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All of my love around you, soft and clear.
Then when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and "Welcome Home"
