John Scruton Obituary

DOVER – John F. Scruton, 73, of Sixth Street died Friday, July 24, 2015, at the St. Ann Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born March 13, 1942, in Dover the son of Stephen W. and Emma F. (Redden) Scruton.

John was a graduate of Dover High School Class of 1961. He worked many years at the Portsmouth Navy Shipyard from which he has been retired from for 20 years. John was an avid sailor, was actively involved in the Dover community and a passionate advocate for land conservation.

He is predeceased by his parents; two brothers William Scruton and Rev. Stephen W. Scruton and his nephew Robert T. Scruton, Jr.

John is survived by his brother Robert Scruton of Hampton, N.H.; Janet Scruton of Marco Island, Fla.; his niece Cathy Ronca and her husband Paul of Westport, Conn., and their children Olivia and Samantha, and many cousins.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, July 28, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home 621 Central Ave., Dover, N.H.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the Parish of the Assumption at St. Mary Church on the corner of Chestnut and Third Street in Dover. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Triangle Club, PO Box 592, Dover, N.H. 03821.

John reached out to me years ago when I showed up at the Triangle Club and always continued to do so. He kept a lot of us in check and frequently regaled us with his stories. What a blessing it has been to call him a friend. RIP my friend.
