Lin Wong Obituary

DOVER - Lin Chung Wong, 97 passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born August 6, 1917, in Canton, China. Mr. Wong migrated to the U.S. in 1963 with his wife and six children after graduating from theological school in Hong Kong. He first moved to Cleveland, then to Boston and finally Dover where he started the Asia Restaurant on September 21, 1970.

Through his and his son Mo's management, the restaurant grew from a simple rented space at the Kimball Motel to its own structure opened in 1982. The family eventually owned five restaurants in the Seacoast area.

Mr. Wong himself was an excellent cook and performed cooking demonstrations and classes in the area at schools and at his restaurant.

Mr. Wong was a beloved figure in Dover. Every day he and his wife walked between their home on Kirkland Street and the restaurant on Third Street, and was known for his friendly greetings to passersby. A generous man even to those he didn't know, he instituted the restaurant's annual "Senior Citizen Day" as part of the Chinese New Year where the seniors eat for free.

Mr. Wong was deeply religious and for many years was associated with the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church on Harrison Ave in Boston.

Mr. Wong was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Yuk Yin Wong, his daughter Sophia Veilleux, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by a sister in Quincy, Mass., his son Mo Wong and his wife Esther of Portsmouth, his daughter Sue Yip and her husband Tim of Issaquah, Wash., his daughter April Moyer and her husband Fred of Dover, his son-in-law Mark Veilleux of Dover, his son John Wong and his wife Avy of Dover, his daughter Hana Chung and her husband Raymond of Dover, sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A private service will be held on Friday, June 5. Burial will be at New St Mary's Cemetery in Dover, N.H.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tasker Funeral Home. Please go to www.taskerfh.com to sign the on-line guest book.

I had the incredible pleasure of working for Mr. Wong (Ba ba) for several years. I will never forget the love, kindness, and generosity of this family starting with Father. Although I moved far away and have been gone for over 25 years, I have never forgotten them. My heart going out to this family (feels like my family in many ways) prayers especially to Hana & John who I have remained in contact with all these years.

Dover lost a legend this week.
Words seem inadequate to express the sadness I feel right now. Mr. Wong was a father figure to me and I will definitely hold in tight to the memories I have. To my extended sisters and brothers of the Wong family, hold tight to your memories for comfort, lean on each other and your friends for strength and always remember how much you are cared about.

"Ba" was my second father. His face spoke volumes to me about the world. He introduced me to Chinese culture, cuisine, and the restaurant business. I was honored to serve as his witness when he attained American citizenship. I will always treasure how, when Sophia and I moved out West, Ba sent us our way with his faith, prayer and blessings. May his Spirit enjoy limitless freedom and may his family be at peace.

Hanna, Johnny and family,
So sorry to hear of your Father's passing. My Dad and Mom were very fond of him, and always referred to him as family. Your Dad and mine traded some interesting stories over the years, which my Dad still spoke of until his passing. Please accept our deepest sympathies and condolences. May the Good Lord Jesus help see you through this difficult time and May He Bless You All.

Mr. Wong was an incredible man with an incredible legacy! He and his wife were very good to me throughout the 5 years that I worked at the Dover Asia. I have many great memories of Mother and Father Wong and the rest of the family! Thinking about all of you today.
