Maurice Butler Obituary
BERWICK, Maine - Maurice D. Butler, 80, of Berwick, died Saturday evening, September 6, 2014 at Varney Crossing in North Berwick. He was born in Berwick on July 24, 1934, a son of Dean and Hazel (Johnston) Butler. He grew up and was educated in Berwick, graduating from Berwick High School.
Following High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Dental Technician. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned home to Berwick, where he became a meat cutter at Johnson's Market. He then moved on to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he spent his career as a Quarterman. Following his retirement, he went to work for the Town of Berwick. He served in many positions and boards, including Code Enforcement, Sewer District, Planning Board, and Selectman.
In his spare time, he enjoyed antique cars, especially his 1929 Ford Model A. He was a member of the Antique Auto Club of Wells. Maurice was also a member of the American Legion, Post 79, and St. Johns Lodge #51, F & AM, South Berwick.
In addition to his parents, Maurice was predeceased by a son, John D. Butler; his brother, Ralph Butler; three sisters, Flora Scott, Erla Burrill, and Marion Hamilton.
Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean (Larochelle) Butler of Berwick; their son, Scott P. Butler of Sanford; a granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone at Abundant Blessings, Rochester Manor, Cornerstone VNA, and Varney Crossing for all their great service to us.
There are no calling hours. A Masonic Service, American Legion Service, and a Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick. Should friends choose, memorial donations in his name are encouraged to: Great Bay Services, 2061 Woodbury Avenue, Newington, N.H. 03801-2893. Arrangements are in care of Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, PO Box 728, Berwick, Maine 03901.

I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Maurice. I was JUST thinking about your family a couple of days ago....He was such a wonderful person.
