Philip Blanchette Obituary

SUMTER, S.C. — Philip R. Blanchette, 72, husband of Sandra A. Elliott Blanchette, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 1, 1939, in Rochester, N.H., he was a son of the late Louie Blanchette and the late Genevieve Perrault Blanchette. He graduated from Holy Rosary Grammar School, and then continued on to Spaulding High School. He worked for 23 years at MB Claff & Son (former Fownes Division) as a foreman/supervisor until its closing in 1979.

He then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 11 years until he moved to South Carolina in 1990. There he was employed at Federal Mogul (former Metal Leve) for 12 years. He retired in 2004 at the age of 65.

He was an honorable man and a very hard worker. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Rochester, N.H. for over 30 years. He always kept his membership at the Elks in N.H. He never transferred his membership to Sumter because he felt it would be like severing himself from his hometown.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years; a daughter, Lona Blanchette Adachi (Luiz); a son, Philip R. Blanchette, Jr. (Kassie); grandchildren, Kayla Hanson, Lexie Hanson, Jeremy Bollman (Michelle) and Jamie Lambert (Luke); great-granddaughters, Moriah, Madelyn, and Noelle; brothers, Raymond Blanchette (Betty) of Sumter, and Joseph Blanchette (Marlene) of Rochester, N.H.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Louie Blanchette and Jimmy Blanchette.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Clay Smith, officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the Sumter Elk's Lodge, 1100 West Liberty St.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
