Philip Macomber

ELIOT, Maine - Philip Macomber, 83, of Eliot, Maine died on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Hyder Family Hospice in Dover. due to complications of diabetes.

Phil was born on October 10, 1930, at Macomber's Corner in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, the son of Orman and Evelyn (Hawkes) Macomber.

While serving in the Navy, Phil began writing to a fellow shipmates' friend, Ruth Pettigrew. This pen-pal became his wife on June 14, 1952 and they shared 54 years together until her passing in 2006.

Phil worked for the Maxam/Tech Products Co. in Portsmouth. In his spare time and after retirement, he did numerous construction renovations for many people in the surrounding areas. Also, building the house he lived in.

Family was always first for Phil. Whether it be coaching his son's Little League team or vacations at their camp on Moosehead Lake. Hunting and fishing were his kind of relaxation. Phil was also a past member of the Eliot Volunteer Fire Department.

Phil is survived by his daughter, Gail Ostromecky of North Hampton; a grandson, Thomas Ostromecky of Dover; a brother Merton (Gloria) Macomber of Dexter, Maine; a sister; Phyllis Macomber of Gardiner, Maine and 3 nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth in 2006 and his son, Dale in 2000.

Many thanks to Dr. Michael Southworth and his team of co-workers at Wound Care in Portsmouth and to his special 'girls' at Dialysis, you made him a part of your family and you are all angels in his eyes.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, 7 September 2014, 11 - 4 at the Kittery Lions Club, Rt 1 State Road, Kittery, Maine 03904. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Hyder Family Hospice House, 285 County Farm Road, Dover N.H. 03820. Care for the Macomber family is entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
