Robert John Ornellas

ELIOT, Maine - Robert John Ornellas, 71 of Eliot, Maine, died on May 24, 2014, at his home.

Born in Brockton, Mass., on Sept. 11, 1942, he was a son of John and Geraldine (Couto) Ornellas. He attended schools and was raised in the Fairhaven, New Bedford, Mass., area graduating from Fairhaven High School.

Bob proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force before working for a time at the U.S. Post Office, General Dynamics, the Charlestown, Mass., shipyard and finally the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1974 to 1994, where he retired as a general foreman.

He married his loving wife Carol (Piantoni) in 1968 and together they made their home in Eliot, where they raised their three children. Bob enjoyed anything mechanical, automotive, helping neighbors and friends with projects and enjoying many years drag racing at New England Dragway. He enjoyed singing, playing a game of cards and spending time with the family he cherished.

He is survived by his loving wife Carol of Eliot; children, Gina Lanouette and her husband Kevin, Greg Ornellas and his fiance Sue Gebhardt, and Lori Perkins and her husband Craig; grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Amy Lanouette; Brooke Gebhardt and Kendra Ornellas; and Addison Perkins. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia DeCost and her husband Ronald. In addition he is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his younger brother, William Ornellas, and his twin brother, Richard Ornellas.

Friends may visit with his family on Thursday, May 29, from 4-7 p.m. in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 845 Woodbury Ave., Portsmouth, NH 03801. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob's name to St Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place TN 38105. Care for the Ornellas family is entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.

Eric and I have great memories of Bob, hanging out at the house in Eliot with Greg & Mark ... he always had a story to tell or advice to give and he had the best hugs. We are truly saddened he is gone. We send our love and sympathy to all of you. God Bless.
