Roland Hofemann Obituary

DOVER - Roland P. Hofemann, 83, of Dover, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born on February, 25, 1934 in Methuen, Mass.; the son of Otto Hofemann and Mary (Reter) Hofemann.
Roland retired from the United States Air Force in 1977 after 23 years of service. He was stationed on bases in Japan, Wyoming, Delaware, Newfoundland, Ohio, Texas, Germany, Turkey, and New Hampshire. He also served in Vietnam behind enemy lines in Laos in communication operations. In 1998 after 20 years in Supply Logistics he retired from Portsmouth Navy Shipyard.
Roland was known for his strong advocacy for senior citizens and military veterans. He was the sponsor of Dover's property tax exemption bill for seniors and veterans. He was the former Chaplain of the Dover American Legion, Chaplain of Disabled American Veterans, Chairman of Dover's Senior Citizen Advisory Committee, and President of Dover area AARP. Roland was the recipient of the national AARP Award for Outstanding Community Service. Roland served one term on the Dover City Council in 2000-2001, and five terms as a state legislator in the New Hampshire House of Representatives 2002-2012. He will always be remembered for his love of music. In 1976, he played the violin in The Kusel Classical Orchestra in Germany. He also entertained many on the piano.
Roland is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois (Charles) Hofemann; five children; Patti Lizotte of Ivoryton, Conn., Catherine Sorenson of Durham, N.H., Paul and Joyce Hofemann of Austin, Texas, Steven and Amy Hofemann of Lambertville, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; Michael Watson, Daniel Watson, Gregory Lizotte, Garrick Lizotte, Christina Hofemann, Brittany Hofemann, Benjamin Hofemann, Johanna Hofemann, Sean Hofemann, Jessica Hofemann, and seven great-grandchildren.
Roland was predeceased by his parents, a daughter; Cynthia Hofemann, and his three sisters; Charlotte Keating, Bernice Chisholm, and Edith Riley.
SERVICES: A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Wiggin Purdy McCooey Dion Funeral Home with Deacon Robert Gagnon officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Pine Hill Cemetery.
